Why "Emmaus"?

On the first Easter Sunday, two disciples are walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus - about 7.5 miles. They're devastated. Jesus, the one they'd hoped would redeem Israel, has been crucified.

A stranger joins them on the road. He asks what they're discussing. They pour out their hearts.

And then - beginning with Moses and all the prophets - He opens the Scriptures to them, explaining everything about the Messiah.

That evening, they invite Him to stay for supper. He takes bread, blesses it, breaks it...

And suddenly, their eyes are opened. It's Jesus.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while He spoke to us on the way?" they ask.

And immediately - that same hour, in the dark - they run 7.5 miles back to Jerusalem to tell the others: "The Lord has truly been raised!"

That's the Emmaus journey:

  • 7.5 miles: Encounter Jesus
  • 7.5 miles: Share what you've found

15 miles. 15 weeks. That's Emmaus 15.

Is This for You?

Emmaus Disciples is for Catholics who:

✅ Want to deepen their relationship with Jesus through prayer, Scripture, and the Eucharist

✅ Have someone in their life they're praying for (a friend, family member, coworker who's far from the Church or has never encountered Jesus)

✅ Feel called to share their faith but don't know where to start

✅ Want practical guidance, not just inspiration

✅ Are looking for community with other Catholics on the same mission

Meet Deacon Michael

I'm Deacon Michael Halbrook - a Catholic deacon, husband, father, and someone passionate about helping everyday Catholics share their faith.

I created Emmaus Disciples because I watched faithful Catholics (myself included) struggle with the same fear: "How do I share my faith without being awkward?"

These resources are born from years of study, prayer, and real-world experience walking alongside people as they learn to invite others into relationship with Jesus.

Whether you start with the free Sunday reflections or dive into Emmaus 15, I'm honored to walk this journey with you.
